In illusive dreams
she held onto the
Childs hand and
listened as
every bone
snapped
like a twig.
Satanical cheering
chimed in his ears
bouncing
between drums
like curses.
Chanting,
her hair whipped
at the floor in an
off-beat rhythm,
sweeping the ground
with her dark curls
and placid eyes,
empty, through the
honeyed smoke
twisting her toes
into the dirt
and digging her
knees in blood.
