This is an essay that I had to write for English about the Holocaust. We had just finished reading Night which is a book by Eli Wiesel, who is a survivor of the Holocaust. The book is a true story about his experience.

"Hurry!  Take off all of your clothes!  It is time for selection!"A S.S. officer is yelling and spitting in your face as you run by.  It is freezing outside and you are starving.  Death is constantly looming over your head.  It is time for another selection at the biggest death camp.  Auschwitz.  Even just the name makes many people tremble in fear.  Ha!  You laugh in their faces.  If the name scares them, they should try living here.  You know that these are common thoughts that a Jew is having during World War II when Adolf Hitler has taken power and has put you in a concentration camp.

Adolf Hitler took power of Germany in 1939.  He Aryans, people who were pure German and had blond hair and blue eyes, and he thought that they were a superior race, but he felt totally different towards the Jews.  Hitler absolutely hated them.  He thought that they were the cause of Germany's problems.  It wasn't uncommon or unusual for someone to hate Jews because they had been hated for generations.  Hitler took his hate too far though.  He planned to kill every single Jew and rid Germany of its problems.  This was the beginning of WWII in 1940.
German soldiers moved millions of Jews to concentration camps.  They were beaten, starved, put in crematories.  About six million Jews ended up being killed during WWII.  This genocide angered many people.  The Allied Powers started to take action to end the war.
Pearl Harbor was bombed on December 7th, 1942.  This angered Americans and they got involved and joined the Allied Powers.  The Allied Powers, which America had joined, fought against the Axis Powers, these our the countries fighting alongside Germany.  The Allied Powers eventually ended World War II and the Holocaust in 1845.  A total of twelve million people ended up dying.  One and a half million of those people had been killed at Auschwitz alone.  Memories of the Holocaust still torment survivors today.  We all need to learn about the Holocaust to prevent it from happening again.
People should read Night so that they can learn how horrible the Holocaust really was.  Some people say that the Holocaust really didn't happen and if it did then most of it isn't true.  They think that the Jews are just lying and exaggerating to get people to take pity on them and to get extra attention.  If people feel this way then they need to see what really happened through someone's point of view who was actually there.  Also, they can watch videos that are from the Holocaust and the concentration camps or they could just go see the concentration camps and see how horrible they were for themselves.  If people continue to think like this, then another event similar to the Holocaust could happen.  It would be horrible if another genocide of one race, or many races, occurred ever again.

Wow. I hate that whole period of history, simply for what hitler did, but we need stories and essays like this to show people what really happened and to stop something like this ever happening again.Wow.

This is interesting. The only reason I really read it was because I'm writing a novel about the holocaiust and I was wondering if you had any information that i could use. Well, i had all this information and some other stuff you didn't mention, but this was still something that was worth reading. However, you wrote 1845 instead of 1945, easy mistake lol. One thing this essay didn't mention was that concentration camps and death camps were different things and that of the 6million killed, they were not all jews, but most were. I'm sorry, if I'm being a smart allic! I've got like a lot of information running through my head that i've researched, i guess i felt like stating it. The holocaust was really a terrible time.

Oh thanks for the date. I must of typed it wrong so I'll go back and fix it. Yeah, this was just something that we had to write quickly in English this past year. Don't worry about it. I love getting help with my writing. Nothing you tell me will offend me. I'm knew at writing and think that the criticism can help me improve. It was a terrible time and I think that people should learn about it. So I agree with you and I don't mind hearing the different facts. Let me know when you post your novel about the Holocaust. Thanks and good luck with your novel! :D

That was very good! What grade did you get for this? I really like reading about that time period. It was so sad and so chilling that you can't help, but to be so interested! Very good and I have to say that you have some seriously good writing, even though I only read this and your poetry, but I can make a good guess!

wow good work i studied both wars people who don't believe it happenend that's kind of scary not to believe that it did :( its good that you want to make sure everyone believes it's real the holocaust was a very terrible time my family back in the days were jewish and from poland they managed to escape before the second war lucky for them not so lucky for those 6 million and 3 million who were communists, gypsies, gays anything that repelled hitler.. Interesting i love history and the wars definitely the most interesting as well as the vietnam war .. terrible times people should read anne frank's diary that would help them see what it was like in those times to be jewish and it was real :) anyway i really like your writing xD

A very interesting and tragic write. Are you aware some people believe this never happened? You wrote it with great passion and emotion. This was something that should never have happened and I pray it will not happen again.
Wonderful write.

That was very interesting to read. I was about to read your story 'Unexpected Love' but this caught my eye and I had to read it.
I studied Nazi Germany and it was fascinating the background to it. I have also been to Auschwitz which was heartbreaking and totally moved me. I don't think people understand the enormity of what happened and I learnt so much from that trip. I think people do need to be reminded of these attrocities to prevent it happening again because what happened there was beyond anyones expectations, it was pure hell.
A really good piece you've written here. Well done, hopefully it'll inform lots of people and make them aware of how lucky we are today.

Thanks. lol. fell free to still check out my novel if you want. I would love to hear your opinion on it. Yeah, WWII does have a fascinating background. Really? I want to go to Auschwitz when I'm older. yeah, people don't understand. It is so horrible that some people don't believe it happened at all. It's good that you learned a lot from that trip. yeah, I agree. Thanks and I'm glad you liked it. I hope it does inform people too. Thanks again for reading and commenting! :D

What scares me most about the Holocaust is how many "normal" people were involved in it. There was a show on the History Channel about the guards and their families; it showed these people's photo albums, with them hanging out, laughing, playing the accordion, just generally having a good time--less than a mile from where thousands of other people were being tortured and murdered hourly. It's easy to think of the guards as having horns coming out of their heads, but they just looked like regular folks enjoying their day off, except in some of the pictures you see the smoke coming from the crematoriums. Now that is creepy.

Yeah, that is one of the saddest parts about it in my opinion, and of course how many people were murdered. Yeah, I don't think things ever could have been normal for me if I knew people where being tortured not that far away from me. I'd have to do something. haha, yeah that is very creepy and sad. Thanks for commenting! :D
