Started as a school project and ended up being one of my favorite pieces. A bit more brooding and dark.

I smooth the weathered crimson velvet with my wearied fingers.

Can taste the creeping bitterness, inside my mouth it lingers.

I'm sitting in this purgatory in the shape of a wandering train,

As I'm staring out the dusty window at listless grey and rain.

If only I had known.

I look out on drifting people, jailed by their own delusion.

Do they walk the endless road to resolve their own confusion?

Their tales seem too familiar, like a records ceaseless skipping.

Closing my eyes I clench the rail, Holding it and gripping.

If only I had known.

Needing relief, I ask for a drink as the porter quickly passed.

My cracked lips quivered "Please answer me sir, I don't  think I can last."

His reply shot out in a menacing manner, weighing me down like lead.

"No more time for earthly pleasures, you're stop is just ahead."

If only I had known.

Is this journey of my empty fate one that they required?

I don't even want the answer, to know what they desired.

I wish this burden off of me, If only I had known.

That the baggage which I carry, Is not just mine alone.

Theres no use wishing now.
