A poem I wrote in year 5 I think... It was for a project where we had to find out about and present on a word to do with water. Mine was "Rapids".

I lie on my back

And stare at the sky

When I hear distant thunder

On this perfect night.

What is happening

To make me fright?

With the stars shining bright

In the dark becoming light

Was there a storm in the night?

The rumble thunders on

As I stand out of curiosity

And spy the river.

I follow it’s meandering

As the roaring gets louder

The trees part

And I see the rapids.

They twist and turn

From the energy they earn

From splashing and dancing

Downhill to the sea.

The current is charging

Stripping down trees

As the thunder rumbles on

The waves seem to sing a song

Of their anger and their rage

As froth flies across the stage,

Every second re-made

By the rolling tumbling waves

Spray flies as I run

By this torrent,

While the sun

Rises in the east.

And on sunlight these rapids feast.
