Jabs of ice, don't scurry, don't dance
Don't behave like any sensation
Not by fluke, by kismet or chance
No sense of fear or any elation

Looking down into the sky
Saline marvel nibbling toes
No need to try to edify
Eaten away, it simply goes

Left to float, but not adrift
Not lost, not found, nor vagrant
While the sun can't be a gift
Its light is not so flagrant

Won't be withdrawn from the rest
So long as part is kept for me
Not a capricious request
For one who floats eternally

No light, no sound, no ending
All are out of your control
You'll be left pretending
All the parts, but not the whole

You're not losing a war
You're not even fighting
Allow me to implore
There is nothing I'm inciting

Don't suppose it needs you
It's absence won't be missed
Feel free to continue
For as long as you exist

I've let you have your weak ideal
Confine its venom to the earth
Maybe I will one day feel
Deference from a race with worth
