My Winter’s Ride Home

Looking back, I believe I am long overdue for this ride.  Fifteen years have gone by and with each promise of a visit came an interruption.  My grandparents are long gone now and my parents are older as am I.  I feel a bit subdued with each step I take toward my ride and I am contemplating what will come of my winter’s ride home.

What awaits my arrival? Will I sense the warmth that I grew up with or the stiffness of those who reacted to my leaving?  Well, I will pray and I will pray some more in hopes of everything working out.

How long will this ride take? Will I speak with anyone or anyone with me? Will I sit in solitude and think? Think about what was or what’s ahead.  One thing is for certain. This is a needful trip and it’s long overdue. What happened? How did time slip by me?

As departure time draws near I take a deep breath. I have my gear on my back and my carry on. I believe it is time; yes it is time for my winter’s ride home.
