The child stood there
Wind whipping her hair
Hands by her sides
Emptiness in her eyes

She knew it was over
Before it began
She knew it was over
When he walked in

She stood there defiant
Death all around
She stood there defiant
Her loved ones on the ground
She stood there defiant
Her tiny fist clenched
As she awaited death

He looked at her with awe
Before he pulled the trigger down
He couldn't understand
Why she hadn't screamed aloud

He looked at her
Down the barrel of a forty four
She would be the last
Before he walked out the door

The last to die
All she could ask was why
Because they
They didn't have to die
