just a simple poem I wrote on a whim a while ago today

By the river

tiny ant tiptoeing ghost
have you lost your anthill?

everything is warmer out here
far from the cold earth
far from the homely tunnels.

yet, as you explore wary
taking in the sights and air
you can't help longing for there.

something spurs you,
a spark a droplet a leaf,
there's something of you in every reflection
in every echo, in the sweet song
of the birds, in the overcast sky.

pausing by the gurgling water
you may ask yourself I.

soon it's day again
time to go
every which way
