We would always hear the beetles speak impetuously from the trees.

The sky was perfect; the warm summer afternoon was nothing but idyllic.

The way the shadows of the leaves painted the sidewalk with wonderful shapes gave me an ineffable euphoria I couldn't forget.

We were best friends, "partners in crime," my sister and I.

We ran freely from backyard to backyard in hopes of not getting caught, while gathering berries and exotic flowers and seeds for our "food fest."

We brought them back to our yard and made each meal lay on a perfectly large leaf.

She said "Leave some for the birds and squirrels."
