Fragile Rose

Flames rising, like orange towers around the gray rubble of what once was an indestructible symbol of America's spirit.

Souls, crying through holes of open sky, white with fear inaudible to you or I.

Memories linger on of what could have been.

The soft, silent tears of children who faced no sin.

Courage fights like a lion; in a hero's hands trying to save one.

Above the rubble, the stars seem to weep,

Though the fires have extinguished, a searing scar of violence cuts deep.

The human spirit on the surface, may be vibrant and agile.

But the inner layer of that same spirit is like a white rose delicate and forever fragile.
