My Tattooed Reality

I am looking in a mirror; the woman staring back at me is a warrior.

Birthmarks, scars, and sun spots pepper the pores of my flesh like imagless tattoos that represent  my triumphs and failures thoughout my existence.

There are images permenantly etched on the chambers of my heart as well.

Like the hauntingly eerie refrain of cripple, freak, and disabled, the misconceived lables placed upon my ancestors so many moons ago.

But I have eradicated these images; instead drawing over them, dragons, phoenixes. and the precepts of my personal bushido; honor, courage, faith, grace, and serenity.

The past will never define me,

Who I am is my tattooed reality.
