A time in my life I did a short stint in the county jail. These are the feelings I felt from my cell mates.

10 Days Inside

The feeling of loneliness, as the echo

in a empty room, is all around.

The cold hard feelings hunker down with

them as they try to rest in their cells.

The short time I have in here absorbs

every feeling that darkens their soul.

The emptiness I feel in my heart

I share with them, longing for freedom.

They look out a window with a desire

to be there, outside, instead of here.

The consciousness of this keeps their time

dragging on and adds to their despair.

Their laughter is hollow, their gaiety rings

of sorrow and mixes with unshed tears

Their loneliness of wanting to be with

someone they care for is harsh reality.
