I was loved once, by enemies now long gone
To borders where the soldiers stalk
For nights with women and gin
He was charming yet sincere
I recall his face and unshaven stubble
As we kissed and I stole away his fear
We danced with riches in our hands
Of raw passion, temporary love, and unabashed lust
And now another fresh eyed girl awaits him
On the borders where the soldiers stalk
And woman prance and lay before
A handsome suited soldier, dying on the floor
And as she cries, with his head in her hand
No ring upon her finger, no children left at home
I'll remember I was loved once, by enemies now long gone.
