If I Am ...
If I am in a grouchy mood
I think it just might be
The better part of wisdom
To get far away from me
If I show teeth in a fearsome scowl
If I am harsh with you
I give you some very wise counsel
Pack your stuff and say “adieu”
If I cannot seem to rouse myself
From which or where I’m caught
Then leave me be - go - walk on by
Don’t mention “should” or “ought”
When frowns are in, smiles are out
Black gloom fills my thoughts
Just take a break and sit and wait
‘Til I’ve untied my knots.
I’ve got up on the wrong side
My skies are black not blue
My shoes are wet, my gut upset
Oh, and I want to yell at you.
I’m just like Dr. Fell, I am.
I am not likable
Hills that threaten falling rocks
There’s really nothing you can do
You cannot fix my breaks
It takes awhile to ease them out --
Well, it takes as long as it takes
So go deaf to my snipes and snarks
I’m a very nasty cuss
Duck and dodge when I poke at you
Run far if I start a fuss
It doesn’t last but a day or two
Only for just so long
Barking this red-mad howling
My furious broke-heart song.
