Volkswagen Green, Volkswagen Blue

The wind bangs and pushes at the Volkswagen
In sharp bursts and slaps
Forcing me to concentrate on keeping her on the road

Leaves brown and and sere, skate, skirr, surf  up the windshield
The sun high, sharp, too bright
Sky full of air and space-washed sharpness

Clouds ride the horizons that surround me
Thick, heavy, gray-white clouds rimming the world
A higher than high gray-blue dome

A white-gold sun
And me at the bottom
Wind-thrust dead leaves push past and clipper around me

In my small green Volkswagen
At the bottom of this November world
Where I think of you and me and things and stuff

Other times, other places push and bang at me
In sharp bursts and slaps
Places and times, furies and failures

Stop-watched, still-framed, time-developed
Photographed in touch, in mind and marrow
Pieces and parts, seen, felt, sensed

Memories grey-brown and ghost-soft skirl all about me
Driven by winds of thought and feeling that buffet me
And force me to concentrate on keeping to the road

Clouds thick and heavy with everydayness ride the horizon
The thin bright sun of reason shines high above
While wind-thrust memories spill up and over and endlessly around me

In my small green Volkswagen
At the bottom of this November world
Where I think of you and me and things and stuff
