I wrote this song after all of the craze regarding "YOLO." I wanted to know where this motto came from so I researched it online and found out that it was actually a song. When I listened to the song I could not believe the message it was portraying. I wrote this message in order to promote awareness for this seemingly harmless saying.

~~You Only Live Once (aka YOLO)

An overused acronym that is seemingly risk-free
That is until one finds its origin, and then they begin to disagree
It comes from the popular rap song “The Motto”
Featuring Drake and Lil’ Wayne, singing about a sinful lotto
Full of vulgarity and sexual perversion
I became sick to my stomach even listening to the clean version
All it talked about was smoking weed and f***ing girls labeled as whores
Yes, that’s right; I’m keeping it real cuz we are in the middle of two wars
We are constantly swayed and torn by the flesh
But God’s beautiful grace makes us once again “fresh”
Satan is very real as described in 1 Peter 5:8
But God is greater; as he is able keep your path straight by cleaning your slate
This song says that we should make love to a million girls
But instead God says treasure one girl a million ways like she is a set of a million dollar pearls
So now that you know the background of this rap
I would challenge you to filter your mind of this YOLO crap
Drop the twitter hash tags and the iPhone cases
Not to mention the t-shirts and the Facebook statuses
If you’re a Christian you know that life is more than just drugs and sex
You decide to live life in a way where you don’t know what’s going to happen next
But if you’re not a Christian, you will soon realize that you are missing an important piece of your life
This is the realization that you can live not only once, but twice without any strife
This second life can either be spent in Heaven or hell
But if you turn your life over to Christ you will certainly excel
Trust me; the world’s sinful desires may look appealing
But God promises Heaven will be full of a joyous feeling
So it’s up to you, you can live out the motto YOLO and end up spiritually dead
Or take God up on his offer of eternal life and happiness instead
