Gone

The excitement is gone, The Adventures over. Everyone and everything bores me now.  All the conversations are the same, the topics never change. It seems that everyone takes turns complaining about the same problems, it is a never-ending crop rotation of problems that I have no desire to care about hearing, I’ve heard them before may be not from the same person but none the less heard them before.

I sit here now with a cup of coffee and a cigarette racking my mind for a new adventure, remembering good times gone by and wonder how it escaped me. Once I was soldier fighting in faraway countries for years at a time, fighting for beliefs and ideals that would change the lives of the impoverished for the better, bring peace, happiness and a sense of security to an unruly civilization and now here I sit at a table alone with my thoughts with only Marlboro and Folgers keeping me company.

Was it combat that made me cold or time? The doctors call it PTSD and go on to talk about a subject that they have no personal experience with other than that read from a text book and heard from lectures. I have known amazing people and fought along Heroes only for their lights to be extinguished to early. It was always the ones that never deserved it but who am I to say who did? Other than that of the men who attacked us first. My cause is gone, my purpose drained, and friends lost to time. The Excitement is gone. The Adventures are over.
