O  death ! the poor man's dearest friend,

The kindest and the best !

Welcome the hour, my aged limbs

Are laid with thee at rest !

And thou art  terrible-the tears,

The groan, the knell, the pall, the bier;

And all we know, or dream, or fear

Of agony, are thine.

Let no man fear to die, we love to sleep

all,

And death is but the sounder sleep.
