The Last Job

William c.

It was a warm summer night, with a light breeze whistling through the grey parking structure. A lone man was on the top floor scanning the buildings on the adjacent street. That man was Alex Mustgrove, a top notch C.I.A hitman, the only one of his class to earn the "Pinpoint." A sniper by trade, Alex could hit a person between the eyes from eight hundred meters away with no fault.

Alex was looking for Sven Bornoff, head of the russian cartel in the east. He was eager to eliminate this target because after the completion of this job, Alex could get the one thing he wanted most, Retirement. He could finally spend more time with his wife Mina and have all the time in the world to watch their daughter Sarah grow up into a beautiful woman.

Alex had information from the intel department that Sven was going to be at the resturaunt Alticore tonight. So he based his operation at this parking garage across the street. Alex snapped to attention as he saw the target enter into the resuraunt and be seated in a window booth. putting his finger up to his ear, Alex activated his communications device and wispered " Mother, this is Pinpoint, come in." A soft silky voice rang softly into his ear, "this is Mother, go ahead." "Target confirmed, permission to execute" replied Alex. "Positive confirmation on the target, proceed to execute." Pulling out a metallic case and placing it on the ledge, He proceeded to undo the clasps on the side. Taking out the pieces of his rifle, he carefully and methodically put it together with an ease that came only with years of experience and training.

Setting the tripod on the ledge of the structure, Alex took the windage and used the elevation and distance knobs on the side of the rifle to make the neseccary adjustments. Looking down the scope, He placed the crosshairs right where the temple was on Svens head. Then counting "One, Two, Three" in his head, took a deep breathe, Alex pulled the trigger. A smile that went from ear to ear came across his face as he saw the familiar red mist that accompanied a hit. As soon as Alex saw Svens body slump to the floor, a pool of crimson quickly forming around him, he started disassembling the rifle. placing the pieces back into the case, Alex picked up the expended cartridge and hustled back to his car.  He put the case into the trunk and slid into the drivers seat. Alex put the key into the ignition and started to turn the car on as a familiar voice rang once again in his ear "burn notice."  With no time to contemplate the statement, He heard a loud metallic click as the key finished turning and Alex was suddenly engulfed in a raging fireball. At that same time, a shadowy figure was staring intently at a monitor displaying the explosion on the rooftop. The soft silky voice, Mothers voice, muttered "Happy retirement Pinpoint, you served us well."
