Dead Space

Is anyone home?

Are you there?

Are you anywhere?

Have you gone to a better place?

Have you abandoned this space?

It is so quiet here.

A drowning silence rings in my ears.

The walls gently pulse, but this abode lies empty.

The furniture sits, desolate and lonely.

Its former occupant chose a life forsaken --

A serving of grief is offered, but not partaken.

Life is no longer housed here,

If living is what you call it.

A human being bereft of connection;

A soul's journey walked alone by design.

Is mourning expected --

Or just a moment of respectful silence?

This is to acknowledge you were here.

Although you chose to go it alone,

In death you are remembered.
