My dearest wife died three years back....I still set a
place at my table....

That empty place…….

There`s  an empty place set at my table,

With a wine glass, a knife fork and spoon

And the hi-fi`s  switched on, softly playing

The start of our favourite tune.

The supper is cooked and is ready

And I`ve taken the cork out the wine.

I am here my dear love, and I`m waiting

To say prayers, and then we can dine.

But my tears, they just won`t stop falling,

And my heart is as heavy as lead.

For I still can`t accept what they tell me,

That you`ve gone…..that you are really dead.

Yes I wait for that chair set beside me,

To move back as you smile, settling down,

And I feel your dear warmth and your fragrance

Invade my whole being like a crown.

Yes I feel that you`re right here beside me,

With your fingers tightly linked around mine.

As I whisper our prayer just like always,

And then I can pour out the wine.

Yes knowing you`ve gone on before me,

Is real hard for an old man like me,

But I`ll wait for you love… wait for ever

At my table, that’s all set for our tea……………
