I have decided to change my career. I write for a living but need a fallback to support my family during the days. Deciding to change careers is a challenging task but can be useful if looked at in a positive light. There are many factors to consider before changing a career. In my opinion, changing one’s career can be fun and enlighten at the same time.

I will list several issues to think about over a cup of coffee and a bagel.

The first issue is to consider education. Do I have enough education to pursue a new career? Depending on how you answer this question, there may be more steps to take. In my case, I am looking at a brand new move. Getting the acquired education is very important so that I can be successful in my career.  Without the proper level of knowledge, I fear I would fail to achieve my ultimate goal (providing for my family).

The second factor is the just rewards. Is this going to be able to help me retire? Is there job growth? This second question is the most important of all right now. The industry that I will be going into is having a tremendous job growth but sadly, this is not the case for all. Researching is a key component to consider before taking the final plunge into changing careers. Looking at the financial aspect in the long term is a valid importance; this will show to some degree the ability to grow within the industry.  As you study your choices as I have mine, you will find positives and negatives. You have to weigh careful the pros and cons in your mind.

The third factor to consider is the dependency of the industry in whole. As I researched on my particular career, I have found that (Information Technology) is independent. It is a stand-alone field, used by consumers and business alike but has no need for or little need for subcontracting companies. For example, a construction company needs plumbers and electricians. This career uses products to a minimum and mostly done by trained professionals. Like a doctor that uses surgical gloves in surgery, my path will allow freedom from dependency on outside sources in general.

I hope you have enjoyed your coffee and bagel. As I said there is many factors to think about and I have listed a few to help you decide. Some of these I have used to help me decide that starting a new career would give me added benefits. Some of these benefits will have an impact on my future. Look, for job security and growth of the new industry, list the benefits of the move, and if there is education involved make sure it will pay for itself in the future.
