Yards of Stockholm

In the raining days of October,

silence fell over Stockholm.

Mysterious accounts of mayhem,

somber moods in the city.

Standing at the rusty fence,

waiting for the ship to return.

Rumors of Armageddon abound,

reports of sunken merchants scream nightly.

A port sitting empty,

ghosts of the dead at the dock.

A deep, brewing sense of grief,

authorities at a loss for words.

A ship just beyond the harbor marker,

flashing signals to port.

Looking for worse,

mangled metal protruding upwards.

Shattered glass,

stains of blood on the deck.

Sailing at five knots,

radio is hissing in anger.

A paled voice plays repeatedly,

haunted words of tragedy.

Rusted pipes and broken doors,

investigators blind to the darkness.

Sinking the ship off the coast,

burying the story in red tape.

Eliminating all accounts,

the true story of Adolfus.
