Wait for me under the sitting tree

I'll meet you there after I flee

I'll flee the town by night,

Under the sitting tree by day.

Wait for me under the sitting tree,

For its all we have left.

The birds and the bees kept it hidden,

until our return.

I wonder if you at our sitting tree,

waiting oh so patiently.

Did you keep you promise?

Should I keep mine?

I fled the night,

not waking a soul.

With my horse in lead,

We rode to the tree.

But they refused to let me

meet you under the sitting tree.

They chased me to the edge of the earth,

raising swords of fire.

They showed no mercy,

as they pierced my heart.

I watched my life pass before my eyes.

One last fleeting image crossed my mind.

A bird,

perched on a branch.

And you sitting under that branch.

Waiting for me under the sitting tree.
