The darkness surrounds me, concealing....

Obliterating darkness.

I can't see my hands trembling,

Nor the sweat that undoubtedly coats my arms and fingers.

I can hear ragged breathing, my own.....

And the sound of the furnace as it fires on.

The darkness has a soothing quality,

That slows the beating of my frantic heart.

I will my mind to act.....

To accomplish what needs to be done.

I'm not sure if it will hurt,

But if there's anything my life has taught me with thirty-plus years of living........

Is that life is full of pain.

There's a subtle light in the darkness....

A gleam coming from the blade,

Illuminated by the reflection coming from the chrome of the rusty faucet,

Blurred by the mist of my tears.

I take a deep breath.....

Tasting the stale, moldy air of the basement.

And then, it's done.....

I just have to wait.

The darkness surrounds me.......

But there's a light, I see it,

I head towards it.......

The darkness of light, be it forever more.
