I curled my small body into a tight ball. My cold body shivered as the freezing breeze rushed past my pale skin. The rock hard forest ground was the home to many bugs, who all seemed to be waiting for a young child's death. I breathed very slowly. Everything around me was pitch black. I could only see the faint outline of trees and unknown animals lurking around. I desperately looked up at the empty sky. Only the orange stars faintly lit up this cold and dark planet. Though it was always dark here, I could tell it was day time. The creatures stirred restlessly, making unfamiliar roaring noises. I slowly turned my head. I shakily lifted my small, now blue hand, and pushed away a clump of messy chocolate brown hear away from my face. I turned my head behind my frail body. I saw nothing. A single tear streamed down my cheek. On my time on the planet Earth, I had learned about shadows. The presence of a shadow meant the presents of a sun. But now, here, there was nothing but darkness.

“Shadow...Shadow, where are you!” I screamed desperately. An endless stream of tear ran down my face. I curled up even tighter in my ball.

Suddenly, something felt different. I didn't know what it was, but my whole body stiffened with fear that it might be a bad thing. Suddenly, I saw something I haven't seen in a long time. I saw light.

A small ray of sunshine beamed strait into my face. I looked hopefully up at the sky. A large, misty gray cloud rapidly moved away, revealing a large star. The whole planet, in what seemed like a fraction of a second, lit up. I could now hear the animals' endless roars of excitement. The noise was overwhelming to my ears, but I didn't care. I straitened my body, feeling relief in my cramped bones. For once my body was warming up, comforting my worries.

My bright blue eyes suddenly widened. I took a deep breath as hope filled my body. I twisted my head. There, behind me, was a miracle. A dark gray figure copied my every movement. This figure was faceless. The corners of my lips slowly moved up my cheek. I placed my hand on the figure, feeling nothing but the still cold dirt.

“I have been waiting for you for so long...” I whispered, my voice trailing off. With a full smile on my face, I continued, “Welcome back, shadow.”
