Breaking Rules
By: Christopher Nielson

There is a dread
In the wood
That haunts us by night.

Empty your head,
If only you could
Bury the fright.

Kill her, hurt her,
Give her slits;
That’s the way we play.

On a scepter
Her head sits,
Mocking childish way.

Yes, we’ll dance
And we’ll feast,
‘Til grief comes undone.

‘Til savage chants
Of “Kill the beast!”
Have murdered everyone.

There is a dread
In the wood
That haunts us by night.

But the Dread,
Understood,
Is hidden by light.
