I looked around the room. I saw the same old boring faces, the same dull people who I always have to make small talk with. They’re talking about their boats and holidays when all I can think about is the end of the party and going home to cuddle up with my love, Sophie, although of course, that wouldn’t be an option tonight. She was staying with her mum, as her parents had recently got divorced. That’s why I ended up with Trinity, Sophie’s best friend. She was pretty, but not my kind of girl. She had soft brown eyes and long brown locks that hung around her shoulders. She wore a tight black dress that hugged her figure well, but our conversation seemed to consist of Sophie. Everything else we disagreed on. When Sophie couldn’t come she decided to send Trinity along with me. I wasn’t all too happy with this, but I couldn’t argue with Sophie. I knew it wasn’t her fault. Besides I only needed someone to show up with. Trinity could do what ever she liked then. She told me she’d be right back as she went to freshen up. I watched her as she made her way to the ladies and noticed a young guy intercept her, I didn’t recognise him, but he was dressed extremely casually. They chatted for a little bit and then he led her to the bar. My gaze continued to scan the room for anyone that looked the slightest bit interesting. The only interesting thing I could see was the bar and the waitress who were handing around nibbles. I made my way through all the people chatting and socialising towards the bar. I sat down on the nearest stool and scanned the crowd once more.  That’s when I saw her. She had the most beautiful vibrant red dress on and her black hair neatly framed her soft, pale face. She was the only means of colour among the dull greys and black and white, except for the man Trinity had just gone off with. I watched her intensely, following her every move to see if she was accompanied by anyone. Of course she would be. Id never seen her here before, she must be with someone. She started to disappear behind a large group of people. I got up and walked briskly towards her. My legs carried me straight in her direction. As I got closer I noticed that a very tall, well built man, in black and white like many of the other people here, had his arm around her very slim waist. This didn’t stop me though; my legs still carried me straight towards her. I ended up right in front of her. She was extremely beautiful, even more so now that I could see her up close. She had straight black hair, cut neatly in a bob. Her eyes were a pale blue and lit up her face. Her cheeks were a pink colour, her cheek bones defined by her blucher. I found myself staring. She lowered her eyes and looked up at me through her long, black lashes, she was smiling. I could see it on her lips and in her eyes. “Can we help you?” The man who was with her asked, he didn’t like the way I was staring at her. Or the way she was staring back at me. I cleared my throat and directed my attention to him. “Roy.” I offered him my hand and he took it politely, but his eyes were still taking in every inch of me. He was watching me very carefully, obviously trying to decide if I would be a threat to him and his beloved. “Roy Henderson” I smiled at him and her. He nodded at me, his eyes still accusing, although he answered me all the same. His name was John McClay and the beautiful lady that accompanied him was Mia Rose. She smiled at me again and I nodded in her direction. “I couldn’t help but notice we’ve never met before.” I told him as I began my speech about who I was and what I did for the company. He looked quite impressed. I was the head manager of the Branch in London and he worked down in Southampton. We chatted politely until people started to move into the dining room. I bid them my good byes and smiled once more at Mia Rose. She has a beautiful name and it suited her perfectly. I found my name place on the table and sat down. Placed next to me was Trinity on my right and on my left was Mia Rose. I almost jumped with excitement. “It seems we are to sit together.” I heard Mia’s voice from behind me. “It seems we are.” I smiled at her and got up to pull out her chair for her. “Will John be joining us?” I asked her noticing he was not following her. “No, he’s been seated further up the table.” She said, a slight hint of joy in her voice. “It seems they didn’t do the table lay out very well.” She laughed and sat down. I tucked her chair in and sat down next to her. I was glad she was sitting next to me, it meant I could have an in deep conversation with her without being interrupted by John. I turned around as I felt a tap on my shoulder, it was Trinity. She had a huge smile spread across her face and I smiled politely back. “So, how’s the party going?” She asked me.   It was a good meal, but I barley got to talk to Mia. Trinity kept making small talk with me, obviously trying to be polite, but I would have much preferred it if shed left me to talk to Mia. I went back into the bar room and Trinity walked away going to get herself a drink. I tried to find Mia, but she was no where to be seen. My search was interrupted as I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. I pulled it out and saw Sophie’s name flashing on the screen. I made my way over to the door and went out side. “Hello Sweetie.” I said down the phone. “Hi. How’s it going?” She asked me sweetly. “I hope it not too boring.” I could see her smiling down the phone now. I smiled to myself and wrapped my jacket around me tighter, as I felt a chill run down my spine, causing all the hairs on my arms to stand on end, I hadn’t realised how cold it was. “It’s ok, boring as usual.” I told her deciding not to mention Mia. In all honesty I’d forgotten about Sophie. I felt awful, but I was glad that she had rung. “You and Trin getting along ok?” She asked, I could hear the concern in her voice, she knew I didn’t really get on with Trinity, but there was no one else who could come, and I refused to go on my own. “Yeah, not to bad thanks Honey.” I told her reassuringly “Although apart from when we arrived and during dinner were doing separate things.” I told her. “Ok, as long as you haven’t killed each other.” She laughed; I smiled and stamped my feet. It was really cold out here and I could feel the chilling air seeping its way through my jacket and nipping at my arms once more. “How’s your mum?” I asked caringly. I wanted to go back inside as I was really cold, but I didn’t feel I could go without asking how her mum was. “She’s ok. Still in shock and doesn’t really know what to do with herself, but she’s keeping herself busy and I’m helping out as much as I can.” Her voice lowered and she sighed, she loved her parents and I knew her parents divorce had hurt her, but she couldn’t let it show, now was the time for her to look after her parents. “Ok, good.” I smiled. “I’m really sorry Sweetie, I have to go. It’s really cold out here and John wants to talk to me more about a job proposal.”  I lied. “Oh, right yeah. I’m so sorry honey. You must be freezing. Well ok. I’ll talk to you later; have a good night and good luck.” I could see her smile now, and her bright eyes, but shed probably be slightly pale, with bags under her eyes under the stress of everything. “I love you Sophie.” I whispered down the phone. “I know.” She replied. “I love you too.” And with that she hung up. I placed my phone back in my pocket and raced back inside. The warm air was inviting and I sat down at one of the tables in the corner and ordered a scotch on the rocks from a waiter who was wondering around. He returned with my drink and I continued scanning the crowd. Looking for Mia and anyone I recognised. After awhile I gave up. I’d noticed quite a few people I new, but really didn’t want to talk to them, so I stayed sat in my corner, hidden away from most people. Every now and again I’d glance back at Trinity to make sure she hadn’t died, but she was with the same guy shed been with all night. I downed the rest of my drink and got up ready to go when I caught a glimpse of a bright red material round the edge of the dance floor. I put my drink down on the glass table, not taking my eyes of the vibrant colour. I walked across the marble floor straight towards it. I could now see her black hair and catch parts of her face as the people between us moved about or parted. I was standing right behind her now, every time I saw her my legs just seemed to carry me straight too her, I didn’t notice anyone else. Knowing my luck id probably walked into quite a few important people without realising. “Would you care to dance?” The words left my lips before I could stop them. Of course I wanted to dance with her but it was like my body had a mind of its own and it was doing everything possible to get me to her. She turned around to face me, her red lips parting slightly as she smiled at me. “I’d love to.” She said, taking my hand and leading me onto the dance floor. It was quite a fast song, so I spun her round under my arm and tapped my feet with the music. She laughed with joy as we moved in beat with the song and her face was alight, although the song soon ended and was followed by a slow song. She looked into my eyes and I felt myself be hypnotized by hers. She rested her head on my shoulder and held my hand, swaying with the music. I rested the side of my head against her and could smell the shampoo in her hair. She moved her arms around my neck and was looking deep into my eyes, I placed mine around her waist and guided her body along with the music. She was looking seriously into my eyes and lent towards me slightly, for a second I let my eyes linger, feeling our faces become dangerously close, but when her eyes ran over my face to my lips and she moved a bit closer that’s when I looked away. I felt a soft hand run over my cheek and forced me to look back down at her. As I did so I felt her lips fit with mine and her tongue part my lips and slide into my mouth. For a moment I lingered, returning her kiss, enjoying the sweet passion and excitement in knowing that we were doing wrong. She pulled me closer to her, our bodies now standing still and she ran her hand over my chest, that’s when I pulled away. She had other intentions that just a one off kiss, she was looking for more. I placed my hands on her shoulders and kept her at a safe distance from me. “I have to go.” I said quickly, taking one last look at her face and turned around to leave. “Don’t go.” Her voice sounded sad and broken. And a delicate hand grabbed my wrist pulling me back to her. “I’ve never met anyone like you.” She told me staring straight into my eyes, her hand still holding firm onto my wrist. “There all boring and up tight.” She said gesturing to all the other people in the room. “They don’t know how to have fun like you do. They all have rules and regulations that there unwilling to break, but not you. You’re different.” She told me pulling me even closer to wards her. She pulled my face down to hers and kissed me firmly on the lips, but I didn’t return it. I pulled her off me and took a few steps backwards. “I’m sorry. I have to go.” I said again. I turned and raced through the crowd. As I got to the edge of the dance floor I noticed someone stumberling towards me. “Bastard!” She was yelling at me as she tripped over one of the chairs that surrounded many tables. I sighed and caught her arm, it was Trinity. She’d obviously had too much to drink and the guy who had been accompanying her all night ran up soon after her. He nodded at me and took Trinity’s other arm. “Would you help me get her to the car?” I asked him as she tried to pull out of my grip. She was still yelling ‘Bastard’ at the top of her voice and people were starting to look. She was embarrassing me and making a scene in front of all these important people. “Would you shut up!” I said sternly in her ear. “Why should I shut up?” She replied furiously, “You’re the Bastard!”  She yelled at me, I could smell the alcohol in her breath as we dragged her outside. Luckily my car wasn’t far and it didn’t take us long to get her there, but getting her in the car was the hard part. I thanked the guy and just as I was about to drive off he asked me shyly if I could give her his phone number when she was more conscious. I looked across at Trinity in the car I couldn’t understand why any man in his right mind would want to give his number to such a girl, but the guy was blushing slightly and I felt sorry for him so I obliged and said I would give it to her as soon as she was sober. He scribbled his number down on a piece of paper and handed it to me thanking me as I got into the car and drove off. I arrived at Trinity’s house, but when we got there I looked across at her to say good bye and noticed that she had fallen fast asleep. I looked back at the empty house and decided it would be best not to wake her, and besides she wasn’t well enough to stay at home alone. If anything happened to her id never forgive myself. I know that she winds me up, and drives me round the bend, but she was a nice girl, and as I watched her now, she looked so peaceful and I could see why guys found her attractive. She was very attractive. I found myself staring at her and quickly snapped out of it. I shook my head and drove home. When we got to my house I carried her in and got out my spare pillows and a blanket, placing them on the sofa. I tucked her in and smiled at her as she snuggled up to the blanket. I woke up the next morning in a surprisingly good mood. I went to check on Trinity and found her awake all ready, rubbing her head, which must be pounding. She drank a lot last night. I bid her a good morning and gave her the number that Mark had given me last night. She seemed grateful and I felt a pang of jealously at her smile when she read the note. I shook it off and offered her some breakfast. Once she looked better and more awake I gave her a lift home. I didn’t really have anything to do for the rest of the day so I thought id give Sophie a quick call. I hadn’t really managed to talk to her last night, but just as I picked up the phone and began to dial her number it started to ring. I jumped in shock and answered it quickly. “Hello Roy.” It was a female voice and I recognised it immediately.  “Mia.” I said still in shock. “How are you Roy?” She asked me her voice hushed. “I’m ok thanks. How are you?” I asked her. I was trying to figure out how she got my number. I hadn’t given it to her had I? I thought about it for awhile and missed her reply. “Mia, I’m really sorry, but I’m a bit confused about how you got my number.” I told her honestly, trying not to sound offensive. I heard her giggle down the phone and I could see her smiling face in front of me. “Well, I thought we had such a good time together last night maybe we could get a drink some time.” This didn’t answer my question, but I was in such shock that I didn’t even realise this. “Are you free tonight?” She asked me. I didn’t know what to say. I still couldn’t believe Mia had rung me. “Yeah, I am.” I said. Not really knowing what I was doing, but the words just seemed to be coming to my lips. “Great. I’ll meet you at the Iguana Bar at 8pm tonight. We can have a few drinks and then maybe get something to eat.”   All I did for the entire day was decided what I was going to do about Mia. I wanted to go so badly, but I didn’t want to cheat on Sophie. But I kept telling myself that I was aloud to have a drink with another woman, that wasn’t cheating. Besides we worked together, it would be just like a work.   I’d let myself put the intimate moment we shared behind me and paused for a moment as I pulled up outside the Iguana Bar. I sighed half with excitement and half with nerves. I parked the car and walked into the Bar. I looked around to see if I could see Mia anywhere. And sure enough she was perched at the bar on one of the stools. She looked different tonight, but still stunning. She was wearing a short denim skirt and had on a blue and white stripped shirt that fit tightly, relieving her cleavage extremely well. She also wore a pair of dark boots that came up just below her knee. Her legs were a hazel brown and almost every guy in the room had at least one eye on her. I went up to her and she turned around as she heard me walking towards her. “Roy.” She said, getting up to greet me. She had a smile spread across her face and kissed me on both cheeks. All the other guys in the bar looked at me with envy and I felt lucky. “Hi Mia.” I smiled back at her and kissed her on both cheeks as well. I sat next to her at the bar and ordered a beer. I was wearing my denim jeans and t-shirt that Sophie had told me was very attractive. We chatted for ages and had a couple of drinks, but as the night went on I felt it become a lot less like two friends meeting up for a drink. She started running her hand up and down my thigh and was touching my arm. She laughed at all of my jokes and constantly looked deep into my eyes. I thought I should stop drinking because I was starting to feel a bit tipsy, but Mia kept ordering me more drinks and I felt rude to deny them. We played pool and when it was Mia’s go she always lent down really low so that her top would fall down, revealing her dark blue and brown lacy bra. I tried not to look but I’m only human and my eyes kept getting drawn to it. She noticed this and began to do it even more. We had a few more drinks and then Mia insisted that I taught her how to play darts. I tried to explain it but she bluntly said that she didn’t understand and asked if I could show her how to hold the dart and lead her in how to throw it. I awkwardly stood behind her, placing my hand over hers and held the dart tightly between her fingers and moved her arm back n forth slowly as she realised it and the dart hit bull’s-eye. She jumped up and down with excitement, her body rubbing against mine. My head felt dizzy and my vision was slightly blurred. Before I knew it she had grabbed me and was kissing me again. I placed my arms around her waist and kissed her back, picking her up and spinning her round. “See I said you could do it.” I informed her and she laughed. “Come on,” She said grabbing my hand and dragging me outside. “Where’s your car?” She asked me leading the way as I stumbled along behind her. I pointed in the direction of my car and she walked straight towards the only car parked behind the small house by the restaurant. It was a little spot id found a few years back that no one every seemed to park in. I handed over my keys and she unlocked my car and got into the driving seat. I sat in the passenger seat and wondered if she hadn’t drunk too much and was able to drive, but she pulled out of the spot and drove down the road. “Where do you live?” She asked me taking every turn with precision. I gave her my address and we were there within minutes. She pulled up outside and got out. “Are you coming?” She asked me as I stared at her in disbelief. I nodded and got out of the car, following her into the apartment building and into the lift. She looked at the names along the side and found mine, pressing the button for the 6th floor. She smiled at me and kept rubbing her hand along my arm. I wasn’t to sure what was going on. It was all a bit of a blur to me. When we got to my apartment I got out my keys and unlocked the door and she followed me in. She closed the door and made her way into my kitchen. I stood in shock and didn’t move until she came back, carrying two glasses of some kind of alcohol. She smiled at me and nodded her head towards my sitting room door. I did as she said and followed her into the sitting room. She handed me the drink and I drunk. All that I remember next was her kissing me again, and heat and the smell of her hair and perfume.   I woke up the next morning with a pounding head ache. I turned over and almost screamed as I found a woman’s body lying next to me. I closed my eyes and buried my face in my hands as I began to remember the events of last night. I got out of bed and picked up my clothes that were discarded all the way from the sitting room to my bedroom. I sat on the sitting room sofa and placed my elbows on my knees, my head still buried in my hands. I rubbed the side of my head and breathed deeply, deciding what I was going to do. I jumped suddenly as the phone rang and picked it up quickly, not wanting to wake Mia up. “Hello.” I grumbled into the phone. “Good morning Sweetie.” Sophie’s voice sounded happy and chirpy and I felt a pang of guilt shoot through me. “Morning.” I said as sweetly as I could without sounding hung-over or guilty in anyway. “Are you ok Roy? Is something wrong?” She asked me concerned. Obviously my attempt to sound perfectly normal hadn’t worked. “I’m fine. Just a bit hung over.” I told her. “Went out for a few drinks with someone from work last night.” I rubbed my head and walked into the kitchen to make myself a cup of coffee. “Oh. Did you have fun?” She asked me sweetly. “It was ok.” I wanted to get off this topic, I didn’t want to lie to her, so I wanted to keep it to minimum amount of information possible. Luckily she changed the subject to the night before. “How did it go with Trinity?” She asked me, hoping that we didn’t kill each other in the end. “It went well.” I smiled. “Trinity got a bit drunk so I let her sleep on my sofa, I didn’t really want her to be home alone.” I told her truthfully. “Good.” She said, obviously feeling happier knowing that we got on well. Although I’m sure Trinity would have another opinion if she remember the whole me and Mia situation. I turned around quickly as I heard my bedroom door open. “I’m really sorry I have to go.” I told her quickly, my voice turning to a whisper. “Why? What’s wrong?” She asked me concerned. “Nothing.” I reassured her. “I just realised that I was supposed to send some paper work off last night and I forgot so I have to go do it now. I’ll talk to you later. Take care.” I said as I hung up. I put the phone down quickly just as Mia walked into the room. “Good morning.” She said happily. Making herself a cup of coffee with the left over water that id just boiled. “Morning.” I replied, slightly hostilely. I was angry at her for putting me in that situation last night, but I couldn’t help noticing how beautiful she looked. She was wearing one of my t-shirts and nothing else. Her hair was messy and her face and eyes were glowing. I was just about to inform her that what happened last night was a one off and could never happen again, because I had a girlfriend, who I was head over heels in love with, when she came over and sat next to me, crossing her legs revealing her perfectly shaped, brown thighs, massaging the coffee mug in her hands. She took small sips her lips becoming wet from the moisture and I suddenly felt a longing desire to have her again. She looked across at me and smiled sweetly and all my previous thoughts of Sophie vanished. She kissed me gently on the lips and I felt myself give into her, kissing her back. I jumped when the doorbell suddenly rang. I got up slowly and made my way to the door, uncertain of whom it could be. I opened the door and to my horror was greeted by Trinity. I held the door partly open, just sticking my head out, desperately trying to keep Mia out of Trinity’s view. “Hey, I just wanted to say thank you for the other night.” She smiled gratefully. “It’s no trouble.” I said quickly, trying to get rid of her as quick as possible. I looked at her blankly waiting for her to go away, but she didn’t move. “Can I come in?” she asked. “No.” I said to quickly for her liking as she raised one of her eye brows curiously. She informed me that she had left her watch here the other night and wanted to get it back as it was a present from her grandmother. “I’ll get it for you.” I said hurriedly, trying to shut the door so she couldn’t come in, but she was too fast. “don’t be silly, I can get it.” She said pushing her way past me and into my sitting room. I heard her gasp and shut my eyes, whishing that this was all just a dream and that id wake up at any moment. I turned around and saw her on her hands and knees by the sofa, but there was no Mia. I gasped with relief, Sophie got up, watch in hand. “That was close, someone could have stepped on it.” She placed the watch on her wrist and was just about to leave when the toilet flushed. “Oh, is Sophie back?” She asked excitedly, making her way over to the bathroom door. She stopped in her tracks as Mia emerged from the bathroom, now completely naked. “Hello again.” Mia smiled at Trinity. Trinity turned to me, a look of hatred in her eyes. She shook her head and walked out of the apartment. I ran after her terrified of the sudden prospect of loosing Sophie. I grabbed her arm, just as she was about to get into the lift. “Get off me.” She yelled, pulling her arm free. “How could you do this to Sophie?” She yelled at me accusingly. “With everything’s she’s going through.” She was spitting at me now, her face going red with anger. “I’m sorry. I love Sophie, Mia meant nothing to me, it was a drunken accident.” I blurted out, trying to come up with some pathetic excuse. Trinity looked at me with disgust and stepped into the lift, her eyes not leaving mine as the doors closed. My head dropped as I made my way back into my apartment. Mia was still stood by the bathroom door, but now she was fully dressed with her handbag on her arm. “I think I better be leaving.” She said, smiling at me. “I’ll call you later.” She said as she walked past me and out of my apartment, closing the door behind her. I sat down on my sofa and dropped my head into my hands, desperately praying that Trinity won’t tell Sophie.   A week passed and I had buried myself in work, ignoring all social calls, apart from Sophie’s and was continuously tense every time I spoke to her, always expecting her accusingly asking me about Mia. However as time went on it seemed that Trinity had decided to keep the information to herself.
