A new day starts with new clouds on the horizon.

The lake is occupied by the newborn swan.

No more rain falls from the darkened sky.

And the swan picks up her wings to fly.

Starting new all over again.

Holding hands until the end.

Scared and lonely through the hallway.

Trying not to listen to what they say.

How we dress they mock and tease.

How we carry ourselves they roll their eyes and leave.

How we talk about life they point fingers and scold.

How they make fun of us leaves us out in the cold.

Tears fill my eyes but they are wiped away.

Cheeks with tear streaks begin to fade.

Leaving no hint of fright or scare.

All because he could care.

Big green eyes that looked through your soul.

Putting together the pieces until I'm whole.

Listening to me when no one else could.

Helping me up when no one else would.

Smiles as bright as the sun itself.

I can't even believe in myself.

But he makes it better with just his voice.

And then I know that I have a choice.

He said that we could do anything.

Bounce a ball, scream at the top of our lungs, sing.

I knew that he would be there with always a smile on his face.

And that he would never be one to replace.

I don't care what they say.

I shouldn't have cared anyway.

And not one of those stupid remarks left a dent.

All because we were different.
