I am from the sunny strawberry patch
The little red berries beneath the sweet clover
I am from the sophistication of rose perfume
That lingered on me as my mother brushed by
  The muskiness of cologne
That clung to me when my brother swung me around

I am from the piano
Where melodies of crystal elegance drifted as my brother practiced
I am from the dark corner of my room
Where my brothers stayed with me during my “time out”
From my clumsy nature when I dropped my mother’s china plates

I am from the top of the stairs
Where the sun rose like a golden globe and struck me with its jeweled light
I am from the crystal chandelier
Whose splendor struck me breathless when the sun shone upon its faceted face, alighting the room with rainbows
I am from the secret garden
Hidden behind flowered bushes and entwined morning glory vines
I am from the white birch tree
Whose willowy limbs extend to life and roots reach to comfort those long gone
I am from chances that are taken
  And rewards that were given

I am from the past that cannot be changed
From the present that came to be
I am from the future that none can foresee.
