"Life is a daring adventure or nothing at all.”

I assume you know who Helen Keller is, right? A spirited young woman who did everything she could. Ride horses, teach, graduate from a good college and become a good role model for people of all places and races. Sure, so what? You may say. So what? Helen was born blind and deaf. And having even one of those disabilities could seriously cripple our capability to do a lot of things. Yet Helen did not let that stop her. She enjoyed life to the fullest and maybe, in a sense, even beyond. You know why? It’s because she took things into her own life and made it exciting. She gave everything a fresh new ‘touch’. She simply tried to do new and invigorating things, she exercised her courage and look at where’s it gotten her, everywhere.

Looking at most of us in that light, I am very sorry to say we are rather pathetic. Most of us were born without any handicaps and yet all we do is whine and complain about everything. We rant about the weather, the government, the media, and our next-door neighbors and even about our food. And we know we are fully capable of changing these things if we want to. But no, we shirk at the responsibility and tell someone else to do it. And when they get it wrong, we get angry…AGAIN. No wonder we’re stuck in a dismal rut. We’d rather stay the same and wait for the change rather than be the change ourselves. Obviously, this is why most of us now live a boring life and are unhappy about it. We’re a bit apprehensive of change and would be gray and boring than to try out new things, have an adventure, in a sense. Change is still an adventure, and we shouldn’t be scared of it. We should be elated, excited because we are going to learn something new. And I hope we won’t become blind before we learn that.
