There are wounds that never show on the body that are deeper and more hurtful than anything that bleeds.”

? Laurell K. Hamilton, Mistral's Kiss

Darkness crawled parasitically over my body, swallowing it whole. I couldn't see anything. Violent screams deafening my ears, making them numb. Time wasn’t important where I was. Here, I was at the end. I walked into what seemed like an endless abyss of the unknown. I passed bystanders who were shaded white, no resemblance of anyone I know. They all kept mumbling when I walked past them. I felt emptiness in the pit of my stomach. Then, something grabbed my arm tightly, I dropped to my knees trying to resist. The hands felt cold to the touch. “No! Leave me alone!” I screamed in terror. The hands had unclasped around my skinny forearms. I picked myself up and ran. I had no sense of direction, but I knew I had to get out of here. My heart was beating intensely. Sweat drooped down my cheeks and my eyes dilated. The nameless shade figures started gathering around me. Their mumbling turned into crying and mourning. I was clearly shaken and aggravated by this. The voice that wasn't at all recognizable turned into familiar voices. The ghostly figures slowly mutated and formed into people of my past. Their mourning started to turn into laughter. My thoughts were blank and I couldn't hear myself think. I was suddenly hit with dizziness and vertigo. I couldn't walk properly, I fell face first into the darkness.

Moments had passed before I noticed I was on the kitchen floor alone in my house. My wrist was leaking red ooze that was draining from my veins. I could only look around. I was far too weak to stand up. My screams were too soft and even I barely heard myself. Tears started rolling down my checks, I finally closed my eyes to what I thought would be the last time I ever get the chance to open them. “I am dead, this is actually happening…” I felt death’s blanket as it wrapped around me in a warm gentle squeeze. “I can finally res-“ I was caught short when I heard my mother’s loving and tending voice. “Life is too short, even explaining it makes me regret losing so much valuable time I have with you. Just remember when you can’t see the way; I will be there for you.” I suddenly was struck with a numbing feeling in my arms and legs. Light somehow shot darkness away, for good this time. I was awoken in an ambulance; the light burned my sensitive eyes with ease. I looked around, seeing my wrist wrapped with bandages. As memories flooded it hindered my vision. Like an imaginative movie was playing subconsciously. I saw all the hard times I had faced; I was slowly brought to the fact why I tried killing myself. I was being bullied and was still grieving over the death of my mother. I surprised myself when I started laughing. Energy I had not known was stored was now being used to bring a smile to my face. Tears started pouring. “God I am such an idiot. Why are you gone mother? I need you with me. I can’t do this alone!“ I caught myself before I could say anything else; I was speechless, remembering what my mom told me before she had passed away.
