take away the pain
and all you have is one hollow cavern of emptiness and sorrow
filled with nothingness and countless tomorrows
but still, only one remains...

laugh at this humorless maniac
as he sneers his way through life, then run:
run away as fast as you can (before you catch my eye)
but still, only one remains...

play in the pit of passionate lovers
as you rapture your flesh throughout the night,
but beware the phantoms, for they will take you unannounced
but still, only one remains...

drive yourself beyond the nightmares
into the world of dreams and purpose,
then find yourself left all alone on an unscripted stage
but still, only one remains...

wipe away the tears
as your hopes arise when the sun peeks from behind the horizon
of timelessness to shine once again on your world
but still, only one remains...

drink away all the cares of this world,
then hurl them out at the end of the nighttime gluttony
only to lose it all again
but still, only one remains...

gather your love unto your self;
hold her tight against your chest,
embrace the warmth and soothing touch of her
but still, only one remains...

get in your car and drive away,
no destination planned nor goal set:
find yourself where you were destined to be at the end
but still, only one remains...

capture the memories of your now,
keep them safe in your albums of the past and times long gone,
watch them collect the dust of years yet to come
but still, only one remains...

hide your self in the closet of shame:
the rampaging father hunts your ass
for to rip it apart with a leather strap encrusted with steel
but still, only one remains...

seek out your path through the shattered earth
and find your fate at the end of a long life unlived
or a spark lived to its brightest
but still, only one remains...

dream your dreams and wish for the improbable,
set your heart's desire on fire
and watch it burn to char and drift as ash while you exhale
but still, only one remains...

feed your anger and drink in the jealousy
as you find your soul's mate betrothed
and devoted to another man: will you take her away?
but still, only one remains...

in the end it all comes down to
just your self and no one else,
so live your life and take pleasure where you may
and still, only one remains...

only one remains after everything else;
for while we surround ourselves with distraction and company,
the singularity of self brings it all back to one and only:
only one remains...
