Once there was a man,
foolish and upset,
who called upon the heavens,
to hear his deepest regret.
He pleaded his cause,
laced with greed,
for his wife to live,
and the god’s agreed.
He awoke the next day,
with a goddess, to share his life,
and exclaimed such a pleasure,
even though it was not his wife.
“Oh my seventh heaven, my cloud nine,
to what do I owe a presence so divine?”
“Was it not your late wife, and only love,
who you wished to descend from the heavens above?”
At this the poor man hung his head in shame,
for the lowly insult committed,
against the memory of his desired dame.
The goddess smiled warmly,
and nodded her beautiful head,
inviting the man,
to take her instead.
the man quickly decided,
and took the goddess to his door,
kicking her out, with all her beauty,
for he was faithful evermore.
And even though his wife still lay,
Within the lands of dead,
he slept at night, content,
for he could not be mislead.
So what a surprise for this man,
when next day he awoke,
within the grasps of his wife,
who then proudly spoke:
“I thank you for being honest,
and keeping your wedding-vow,
for the gods would not return me,
had you taken that goddess sow.”
