Maya Angelou was an american poet. She published many poems and books. Maya Angelou wrote a total of seven autobiographies, one called "the black woman's poet laureate", and her poems have been called the anthems of African Americans. Maya Angelous was born on April 4, 1928 and died on May 28, 2014. Maya Angelou was also a civil rights activist and she accomplished many things. Some poems that were written by Maya Angelou were "Caged Bird" and "Alone" today i will be discussing these two poems which i read.
Maya Angelou's poem "Alone" is an emotional poem from what ive read. I think the poem was about life and how the author was searching for answer about it. In Maya Angelou's poem "alone" it also sounds like the author was trying to explain how in the old days it would have been hard to accomplish things if you were an african american and that without family it would have been even worst.Throughout the poem, Angelou uses all kinds of figurative devices: simile and metaphor, hyperbole, and plenty of figures of sound (rhyme, alliteration, and repetition). One metaphor that is used in the poem is "I’m a black ocean, leaping and wide"
The second poem i will be discussing is "Caged Bird" In this poem the author uses two bird to represent two different lives and how they would be lived differently. While reading i noticed that stanza 1, line 2 contains an example of personification. The line is “on the back of the wind.”  It personifies wind by giving it the human trait of a back. Throughout the poem Maya uses alot figurative language. The poem mainly starts by comparing a free bird and a caged bird and how they would live entirely different. In the end of the poem the author writes that the caged bird would never be free and would lose his hope.
In conclusion i liked both poems but my favorite one was "Caged Bird" i really enjoyed this one more because it showed two sides of life and how they are different from each other.Eve though the poem ended abit sad due to the caged bird losing hope of ever getting out of its cage.I also liked that the poem "Caged Bird" used many metaphors
