When he died, her face was very still. No sign of anger, no sign of misery or pain or even a little bit of grieving. It seemed natural for her to not have him around. I tried talking to her from time to time, asking if she was okay, but she would just avoid the question and talk about something else. She even insulted him a few times, saying how many times he was irresponsible and how he was so selfish and arrogant, she was just mad at him for leaving just like that. Every word that came out of her mouth was of hatred, as if she didn't give a crap about him after all they went through. The days passed and things kind of went back to normal. One day I walked up to her room to ask if she was joining us for dinner and there I saw it: the face of a woman so alone, the face of someone who was just about ready to give up on life. She was crying. You could tell on her face that she missed him, no matter how many times she said she never wanted to see him again, no matter how much she insulted his memory, she missed him… watching your own mother cry, watching her suffer after losing something so important, that's something nobody should have to see, it's enough to break anyone. After a few moments of silence, she said her phone was ringing. When she answered, a nostalgic voice came out saying " hey honey, missed me?". Since then, I haven't seen her anymore, I didn't get to say goodbye to her when she died that night. The weird thing about it all is that… I never heard her phone ring, but yet when she answered it, she told me it was my father…
