My shoulders sagged. I followed, running trying to keep up. I ran so fast I paid no attention to the people watching me. I ran straight into a boy I had never seen in my life. I looked up from the ground and smiled a little. "I’m really sorry, I’m trying to keep my friend from banging her head into a locker." I whispered to him. "No I’m sorry, its ok really." He said.

My life was perfectly fine. Perfectly ordinary. I was the most popular girl, the girl with the biggest brests, best hair, prettiest eyes…until I started middle school. It’s not normal that you start middle school in the seventh grade…but our school system is screwed up, big time. Anyways back to my life. I got any boy I wanted…with a little flirting time and he would be mine. I could break hearts in a millisecond, and not even think twice, it all changed when my eighth grader showed up

?

It was just another ordinary day, in Sneedville Tennessee…well not so much for me. My name is Sarah Nichole Hopkins, future model/actor/singer/songwriter. I was one of the Golden Girls…well the beta. I always came second to Victoria Marion. She was prettier than me, everyone thought she was smarter than I was, she was more charming, and with a bat of her little eyelashes, she would steal any boy’s breakable little hearts. Me, well I was second choice. I came second to her in anything, and it really wasn’t fair. I thought everyone loved and worshiped at Tori’s size three dainty little feet, until a boy changed that. I was sitting at home, on my computer board as hell, when on my Facebook chat box, Hayden Roper wrote me for the second time that week. My eyebrows pulled together, why was he writing me?

Hayden: Hey
Sarah: Hi
Hayden: Sup
Sarah: Nothin much…what about you
Hayden: Same
Sarah: Cool
Hayden: Hey, I have to go…what’s your number I’ll text you.

I gave Hayden my number without any hesitation, and sat back and waited for a text. Ten minutes later, I got what I waited for. Hayden and I texted constantly for the next week. Learning more and more about each other as the days aged on. Finally, one day with a week before school, I got a very surprising text message:

Hayden: Do you like anyone?
Sarah: No, Maybe, Yes
Hayden: Who is he?
Sarah: not telling.
Hayden: Please
Sarah: No
Hayden: Please L
Sarah: I’ll give you a hint.
Hayden: Yay!
Sarah: He is…in the eighth grade.
Hayden: Caleb?
Sarah: No, he has brown hair
Hayden: Josh?
Sarah: No..blue-green eyes
Hayden: Me?
Sarah: Never know.
Hayden: It is.
Sarah: Never know
Hayden: Its okay…I like you too.
Sarah: Omg really!?
Hayden: Yes…so are we like…together
Sarah: I guess so

The next day, on the first day of school I rode the bus. I sat quietly twisting and turning my nervous hands and fingers. My best friend Alyssa, sat next to me being equally nervous. I glanced out the window and counted how many birds flew past, to pass the time and try to ease my mind. We rode up Milestone Lane and stopped at a familiar brick house. I gasped as I remembered. Hayden rode my bus. I leaned back in the seat and looked at Alyssa, my eyes wide with excitement.

She handed me a tube of pink lips gloss she had in her bag and I swiped a little across my lips. I glanced out of the bus’s window and spotted my eighth grader climbing off of the table on his porch and watched as his two brothers got on the bus before him. He stepped onto the bus and I was pulling at my new yellow T-shirt, as Hayden passed by. I smelled his sweet cologne smiled to myself. How had I managed this? The bus rolled on with Alyssa and I chatting about different things, who would our home room be, and things like that. "I think I’ll get Jessica’s". I said to Alyssa, conscious of Hayden listening from the seat across from us. Hayden looked up and his pretty blue-green eyes locked with mine

I smiled a sly smile and looked away quickly, Hayden did a slight nod and winked. Alyssa noticed my sudden blush and punched me in the shoulder. "I think he like you." She whispered into my ear. I laughed out loud, Alyssa was just now catching the hint. The bus rolled to a stop in front of my new school, and everyone else rose up, nervousness radiated from everyone on the bus. Starting a new school year, meant more work, and drama. I was the last to stand up in my seat, and was the second to last getting off the yellow cab, Hayden looked at me with those beautiful eyes again.

?

Walking into school took a lot of courage and effort for most people, but when you are abnormal like me, you do things very differently, you skip into school. Like a complete idiot, or fool. Alyssa and I locked arms and held our heads high, and skipped proudly like the twelve year olds we were into the middle school. The high school kids gave us some odd looks, but we just smile, waved, and winked. Hayden chuckled and walked ahead of us. I walked silently down the halls. Everyone’s eyes focused on me and Alyssa. I bit my bottom lip, did these people have staring problems? Was there something on my shirt? Was there something in my teeth, was my hair messed up? I held my breath and headed down the sixth grade hall.

The next day came, after finally figuring out how to use a combination lock, and having being assigned lockers, I was ready to begin my school year. A fresh start, where I could be who I wanted to be, be the golden girl, or the shy girl. The girl who is the most popular and always has friends surrounding her, or the girl who would rather be alone. I sat silently on the bus ride again, but this time Hayden was a no show, and neither was Alyssa. I tugged my floral print grey tank top down and pulled my grey cardigan further up my shoulders.

?

I walked off the bus this time and down the sixth grade hall. Hayden poked me on the shoulder, and I looked around. "Oh, hey." I whispered smiling slightly. "Hi." He whispered back with the same slight smile. We stood in silence for a moment or so before Hayden spoke again. "You look pretty today." I glanced upward and pulled my scrunched, shoulder length, brown hair over my shoulders and smiled. "Really?" I asked quietly. Hayden looked down into my (I know it was eager) face. "Yes." His beautiful voice spoke. Right at that moment first bell rang, Hayden said goodbye and took off to the eighth grade hall, yet his words lingered. I stalked off to my first class, with a fast paced heart. "Hey, I heard you and Hayden Roper were like…boyfriend, girlfriend." Tori spoke from the seat behind me. I turned around, nodded my head, and a huge grin spread across both our faces.

?

"I told you, you should. I’m so glad someone listens to me." Tori said again beaming. "I know, and I love you for this." I said back.

2: Hit that B!tch with a Bottle

The first week of school passed in a whiz. With four teachers trying to learn your name, talking to friends, and having the most adorable boyfriend in the world was amazing, and helped pass time. But, violent delights, brings violent ends, and so drama struck. Not surprising. I sat quietly next to Alyssa on the bus, but I could tell something was wrong. "What’s wrong Liss?" I asked. She shrugged her shoulder, "Nothing." I knew this was a lie, because she was never this quite unless something was wrong. I raised my brow, persuading her to tell me.

?

"Well…you know Keira Johnston right?" Alyssa asked looking worried. "Yes." I did know her. Kiera Johnston was what Tori and I considered a "ho in the making". She was our friend, she was a really good friend, she just hung with the wrong type of people, you know the people you expect to do bad things. She wasn’t the prettiest girl, but neither am I so who am I to judge. Well, I mean she didn’t have eighth grade boys fawning over her like me, I know I sound shallow, but I’m not like that.

?

Really, I’m not. "Well, I told her not to be telling her bra size on facebook, because that’s what she did, and she said ‘shut up ho’ to me. I called her a s!ut for telling her bra size online, or to anyone and now s!ut says she will whoop my ass. She even got Kylie Hightower in on it too." I looked at Alyssa as she spoke this. "Alyssa, we are twelve, we don’t even know what hos and s!uts are. Well we know, but I sure know I’ve never slept with someone, and why is Kylie in on it? Did you call her a s!ut?" I asked her.

?

No. Well, yes. See Kylie jumped in being all like I’m gonna help Kiera whoop your ass, and she called me a s!ut , so I called her a s!ut too." Alyssa’s eyes gleamed with tears that hadn’t fallen yet. "I just don’t want to start anything, and I don’t want to fight her, because Kylie and her will gang up on me, and hurt me." Alyssa burried her face in my shoulder and cried. "Shh…its gonna be okay." I spoke and I trailed off thinking of what Kylie (an eighth grader) could do. "I’ll tell you what," I said pulling her from my shoulder and looking her in the eyes. "If Kiera and Kylie both gang up on you, I’ll throw a punch and get Kylie off of you, but if it’s just you and Kiera, it’s one on one. It’s your fight, not mine, not Kylie, yours and Kiera. But if they think they both can jump on you and get away with it, then they are damned fools."

"Sarah, will you do me a favor?" Alyssa asked drying her tears. "Yes. Of course, what do you need?" I asked confused. "Will you walk in with me, I’m afraid they’ll get me alone and gang up." "I sure will, I’ll stay with you on break too." I said. We left the bus and walked into school, me in front, and Alyssa following. I shuffled my way down my hall, and stopped at my locker. I threw my things in my locker and banged around inside it for a piece of gum. "Sarah!" I heard Alyssa’s warning and I turned around. Kylie was stomping over to Alyssa, but I was closer to Liss. I slammed my locker and put my lock into place. I casually walked closer to my friend and leaned against the locker beside her.
