Originally written for Raksha Bandhan, an Indian festival in which a sister expresses her love for a brother and a brother promises that he will protect his sister forever. This is a poem which I, as a sister, gifted my brother to express my love for him.

A Brother

A brother who you love

He protects you like a glove

A smile and hug is all he needs

So he never lets fair weather friends grow as weeds

A brother who played with you

And allow you to go to any grove

Is now old and is going away

But he will never forget you on his way

A brother whether with his children or wife

Will be there throughout your life

The greatest gift you can give

Is to love him all the time you live

A brother wherever he may be

Will always want you to be happy and free

You may be broken at his death

But he'll love you with his last breath
