My brother,

How could you?

‘I’ll always be by your side’

You promised

But when it came to the man I loved

'Do as papa say'

Was all you uttered.

My father,

I followed your order

Left the love of my life

And crossed the border

Married the guy

You thought was the best

To see your head held high

Laid all my memories to rest.

A leap of faith

A silent submission

My lips stuttered

Yet for your happiness

I managed to say yes.

My husband,

Perfect image of a man

They all said

I embraced you

For my family’s sake

All of my happiness,

Was drained out of me

the Bludgeoning

the uninterrupted stifling

And oh, the beastly abuse.

My spirit is wounded,

And soul all withered

Reduced to a wreck

I am but a broken muse.
