Here where day has broken,

the child lies writhin’ chokin’

on day-old dreams

and runaway things,

on days-gone-by

and a five-side die,

with so many stories unspoken.

He tried to play for keeps,

you see,

in the very streets he sweeps,

but he

got caught up with the creeps,

and we

let sow what he had reaped.

Please pay the toll

for the poor lost soul

of the child who lies here, broken.
