Trapped inside a gilded cage

The songbird has no rage

A gentle song pure and true

Until its time is due

The walls close in

As the war begins

The singing goes quiest

Then starts the riot

Falling to their demise

Loud agonizing cries

Love and kindness are erased

Pain and torment fill their place

The singing rings out

With harshness it will shout

As eyes go dark

You hear the lark

Trapped inside a gilded cage

The songbird has no rage

A gentle song pure and true

Until its time is due
