Simple Pleasures

It seems that when we get older

The world also gets colder.

What happened to the simple pleasures

That as children we call treasures?

A child can find happiness in anything.

Jumping on the bed, swinging on a swing.

Eating imaginary food, running barefoot

Outside with luscious grass underfoot.

A child would be happy dressing up

Getting to use silverware and a big-kid cup

Being able to put their own shoes on.

To a child, everything is a hard yet fun.

A child smiles when they learn to walk.

They laugh and giggle when they learn to talk.

A child is happy when they learn to use to potty.

And to lift their head and move their body.

So why is it that teenagers and even adults

Come up with all the same results?

Sadness is what they find and it stings

That they can't find their joy in little things.
