In the modern age, man seems to drift away from God on account of the rift between religion and science. It is time we understand that God is an essential part of the universe we live in.

Science without religion is lame;

Religion without science is blind.

--Albert Einstein

With the arrival of the 21st century, the world has seen men losing their faith in the existence of God. Even those who profess this faith are not sure. There are many reasons behind this attitude, the major one being the illogical myths and weird rituals practiced in certain religions that decrease the value of religious teachings and, consequently, of the Creator. Another reason is that religious leaders tend to oppose science thus alienating the educated class of the society and resulting in religion being taken non-seriously.

Science has changed the world we live in. Every day, there is a cry of some new invention which is hailed wholeheartedly by the people around the globe. Scientists have made quantum leaps in different fields of science like nanotechnology, quantum mechanics, micro-fabrication etc. Thousands of researches in scientific fields are initiated practically every minute due to which science is making progress by leaps and bounds. Universe is no longer a mystery, functioning of human body a marketplace topic. The dawn of scientific researches has resulted in widespread knowledge and awareness, but along with it, came a decline in religious beliefs and faith. People argue that God is obsolete, and that there is no need of Him now, since there are scientists to explain the structure and working of the world and the universe. Faith is denounced as belief in fabricated tales; those having faith are ridiculed.

The creation of the universe was a mystery for so long, but science came up with Big Bang Theory to elaborate how universe was created from nothing. This theory proves the creation of universe out of nothing as elaborated in many religious books like Genesis, Quran etc. No one is able to prove from where a concentrated ball of light and energy came that exploded giving birth to the universe as we know it today. When scientists trace the origins of the universe to its origin, they too admit that science becomes unable to function, for at that initial moment, all the laws of physics seem to break down.it is proof enough that it was the work of God.

"Do not the unbelievers see that the skies (space) and the earth (matter) were joined together (as one unit of creation) and we ripped them apart?"

Many scientists of today believe that there are certain other planets and galaxies in the universe that hold the same conditions as are necessary for the existence of life, like those on the Earth. However, they have been unsuccessful in giving a tangible proof of the existence of life anywhere in the cosmos other than our planet. Why has the life not started there like it started here on Earth millions of years ago? The answer to this question can be that God intended to create the universe only for man so that he could worship Him and know his Creator. Everything created in the universe has been created for the benefit of man: sun, moon, stars, animals and plants all are beneficial to man in one way or the other.

God gave man a high intellect to probe the mysteries of the universe and the world around him. He wanted man to use his mental faculty to find Him in every object, every creation.

“Verily, in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for men of understanding.”

Today, science has gone into the depth of everything, even at subatomic levels. Man is lifting the curtains of ignorance in every possible field of study to reveal astonishing secrets previously hidden from man, exactly as God intended him to do, but ironically, instead of understanding God and getting closer to Him, man is getting away. Just because he knows today the mechanics of the universe, he thinks God is not needed anymore, He who is the foundation of every creation around him:

“To Him belong those who are in the heavens and the Earth;

all are devoutly obedient to Him.”

World of man is not short of miracles, not even today. Very often, we come to hear of a person miraculously brought back to health after being branded incurable; on account of some dangerous malady, people are expected to live a specific time period, but they live longer than that. God is not Almighty for nothing; He transforms the world around us in a way human mind would never grasp: abrupt changes in climate, in the surface and the structure of the earth we tread upon; science can tell us the causes of these changes, but science cannot explain the causes of these causes. It is when God enters the scenario. Time and time again, He makes us aware of His presence and power by showing miracles and anomalies, including tsunamis and powerful earthquakes that cannot be predicted by science.

Apparently, science and religion seem to be at opposite ends, but in reality, it is not the case. Science, in fact, can help man to understand God. Francis Bacon was right when he said that a little knowledge of science can make a man atheist, but an in-depth study of science can make him a believer in God. Man just has to realize that God is an essential part of cosmology. He is there in every planet, ever star, every atom of the universe; it is His light all around us; we only need a proper eye and a proper mind to see and understand Him. Science and religion need to be harmonized for man to reach the supreme level of knowledge he can think of.
