I found you in the darkest corners of contemporary trash, a diamond
Resentfully entwined with the harsh rubble of suffocating mediocrity
Concealed carefully beneath a thin veil of hypocrisy, of empty courtesy
Where pleasant lies reign over cold honesty

You were an esoteric angel, bound to a mortal frame, darkly
An iridescent stoke of vibrant color upon the dull canvas of frenzied humanity
You were a phoenix, dancing in the flames, consorting with the shadows
A celestial flower pushing upwards through the cracks of dreary pavement

We aligned you and I, both night bound and weary of the discordant day
We took console in each others arms, a romance that flourished beneath the dying light
Both drenched in a raiment of black; the color of death. You exposed the deepest, darkest
Contours of your mind to me, and I became entranced by your negated beauty

You lifted my broken soul to new heights with each soft embrace
Taunting me with the distance that divided us, and still I fell
I fell into you, found my wretched self consumed by the artistry of your prose
Found a healthy reflection of my dying heart in your elegant words

Then suddenly you disappeared, as though your attendance was only ever a teaser
Of what I cannot have, but am for ever damned to covet, to crave and thirst for
As though you were nothing more than a ghostly enigmatic image of my desires
Pushing and shoving me ever closer to the fringe of insanity

I presented you my cold, black heart skewered upon cupid’s rusted arrow
And now I’m fated to long, distilled in this cruel state of melancholia
Of needing and wanting, where nostalgia subverts the kindness of delusion
And my lurid state can be condensed into one simple statement:
“I miss you”
