This was based off of two lines (the first couplet) that I wrote down a few months ago. I wanted to use them somehow and I attributed meaning to them, then wrote from there.

Please leave your interpretation on the comments.

The bird still flies,
But only as it falls,
And I fear it is dying.
That is not what I want.
And the constant beating
Of her ill-worn wings
Tell me just the same.
And only quick enough
Does she greet the sick old earth --

But not done with a wave.
I am a thousand yards away,
Though I see it all the same,
Through my blurry window
Where I've watched it all before --
A sparrow lives no more.
