I am my child
I did not know it, I could not see, my parents had for warned, how could it be.
I watched you grow, I watched you learn, I see you laugh , I see you cry, you’re the apple of my eye.
You are tall and strong, independent too, but what is this mother of yours supposed to do.
Every morning I knock the door, to send you off to college once more.
You are the apple of my eye, so why oh why do I scream and cry.
You are a teenager through and through what ought a mother do.
Ironing, washing, cooking to, cleaning your pit, looking after you.
You scream and shout, slam the doors, why do you wish such ills on this mother of yours.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve known you so long, you really don’t mean to be so horrid to me.
My parents had warned me it is true, that however much I love you, there is nothing I can do.
I have to be here morning, noon and night, whether you need me or not, how can that be right.
Okay so you’re a know it all, but I am not a fool.
Teenager you may be, enjoy it while you can, take a look, get out of bed, stop living like the dead.
I don’t know why I love you but I do, but it does not stop the urge to scream at you.
I would scream and shout with my parents too, you should have seen the glee in their faces when I said I was pregnant with you.
I lie in bed and pray, that one day that horrid teenager’s grown up and gone away.
A pleasant adult came to stay, I did not recognise it as you, it took all a mother could do.
People say you’re a credit, this is true I can see, but how did we get there, it wasn’t for free.
With all said and done “I love you because I’m your Mum”
