A magic that's a little bruised, a magic that you don't have to shield your eyes from, a magic I can understand.

A Strange Kind Of Magic

Tuesday, 28 August 2012

10:20 AM

crawling my way through the blue

shadows echoing off the floor

-magic-

throat raw, simply from breathing

shoulders, sore

there's three guys and me, hopelessly slow

there's:

my friend's brother

that guy who does triathlons

and the one who always wears Speedos and has

a big nose

and me

they:

winging their way

in black, barracudas

groupers

I:

little blue

lost

watching, darting

flounder

there's a checkerboard on the bottom

shadows and the waterlight bouncing from above

there's the smell of outside

there's

the way

hand slapping the wall hopelessly

-they're off again-

-I'm alone-

the familiar dread when they're waiting at the end

Viking invaders a few baubles across

the bubbles rising, taking

your life with them

here's

those three again, hair slicked back

and I'm learning the lane ropes and

tangling my soul in them

dragging your arms at the end

fingers cut

and you're gonna have bruises where

you hit the ground

-Icarus got his wings wet and drowned-

sucking in air as fast as

-you're drowning-

-you're drowning still-

don't let them see how your shoulders are heaving

and you sink to the bottom-

this is where my song lyrics rise up

this is where

where?

where?

keep on searching-

keep on

-you know what someone did once-

kicked me in the stomach

and I

-you know what I did?-

kept going

drowning

strange that you call something

that hurts so much

magic

but that's what I love

the light

that's a little bit bruised

from being snagged and tangled

the pure heart that's been hurt before

this:

the waterlight sparkling in your eyes

and you do feel like a fish when you're

flopping over the side

it's a strange kind of magic

but it's a magic I can understand.
