Having a parent with drug abuse. What can you do? Really nothing you have to remember an addict will only quit if they want to. How do you overcome it? Or possibly help them get out of the horrific spell. How can you know for sure if you are an addict yourself, well addicts don't usually want to come face to face with the problem and try best to ignore how its affecting their life, jobs, and people around them.

I know personally from my mother and father that you can't get out easily. Once you’ve got hooked it's like you’re chained to a wall and there isn't anything in the world that could help you escape, all you think about is how your gonna get your next high then once you get it you want more. Substance use disorder is a disease i don't want to have to argue with anyone on that yes, at first it is a choice. If you like it though… you will chase it.

Drug abuse is when you’re mother sits in her room all day because she hasn't got high in a few days, even if all you want is to spend time with her and be able to bond with her like a “normal” mother and daughter do. Drug abuse is when you're in a basketball game constantly checking if your mom is there because she promised you she would show up this time, but she never does. Drug abuse is when you can't talk to anyone about anything that is happening in the house because you don't want to get your mom in trouble. Drug abuse is when you haven't seen you dad in years thinking that you were just not good enough. Drug abuse is when you get older to realize what's going on and when you try to get your dad to quit then blocks you on the only thing you were able to talk to him on. Drug abuse with when you have to live in a shed because you have no money. Drug abuse is when mom and dad fight and alot and you don't understand why. Drug abuse is when you don't have any toys to play with as a kid because they use all the money they had on their addiction.

Why do parents that have a drug abuse problem do this? Its because all they care about at that moment is getting high. You can try to talk them out of it, you can try to beg them to quit. But they will not be able to unless that's something they really want to do. An addict will be the most selfish person anyone will ever meet. All they care about is THEM and there's nothing you can do to change it. They will steal valuable belongings of yours to pawn it for money and you will be too young to know what's going on when your mom is in her room crying then when you ask what's wrong she will look up at you and cry harder because she knows all the pain that she's caused you but it doesn't compare to the pain she's put herself through.

My mother is now a recovered addict and i can't be more proud of her. As for my dad i don't know where he is or what he’s doing but i can guess. If your the daughter or son of a drug addict it's not your fault any of this is happening to you. It's their fault one day you will grow up and be a great person and they will realize how much they missed out on. They will try to come back into your life but you cant let them unless there clean. They don't care about you unless they are they will steal your things give you fake love and eventually take you down with them. It's time to focus on yourself if your struggling with it you will be okay just keep your head up high and go on.
