Frozen Brazilian Delight

Memoir

The story of a Brazilian-born and raised immigrant learning about America and marriage, laughter, tears and memories about her life in Brazil as she immerses in the American culture and her marriage to a clergyman with a roving eye.

About

I was born and raised in Brazil by parents who survived the Holocaust. After the war, they spent seven years in Israel; my father fought in the War of Independence, and after my siblings were born, they decided to move to Brazil, where they had the only remaining relatives who had survived the war. By the time I was born, they had established themselves in São Paulo, where they had enjoyed a comfortable life. My siblings are twelve and eleven years older than me. My upbringing was filled with a combination of tales from Brazilian folklore, Jewish mysticism, and the stories of survival told by my parents and several of their friends who had moved to Brazil after surviving the Holocaust. Despite their background or perhaps because of it, my parents were happy people, filled with humor and love for humanity.  They belonged to several charity organizations and were active in our local community. I grew up filling every available surface in my house and at school with my drawings and painting. I entertained my school friends with written stories about my adventures as the youngest child with much older siblings and stories about the supernatural.  I was discouraged by my practical parents from pursuing a career in art; my mother used the tragic life of Van Goh and his missing ear to illustrate what happens to artists. My mother was a powerful storyteller, and I decided to pursue a degree in Social Work. I obtained a Bachelor's degree in Brazil, and after my first marriage, I moved to the US, where I received a Master's degree in Clinical Social Work.  I have been a practicing clinician for many years, I returned to the arts after my kids were older, and I paint oils and watercolors, a practice that brings me immense pleasure. The return to the arts led me inevitably to write again, and I fell utterly in love with writing.  I decided to pursue it as a career. I decreased my psychotherapist hours writing daily, and I love every moment of it. I hope to write entertaining, surprising stories filled with hope and humor and, at times, with chills, the quickening of a heartbeat, and an adrenaline rush! For the following months, I have planned for the completion of the sequel of "Frozen Brazilian Delight" and starting my two other thrillers, the story of a truck driver who "accidentally" discovers his background after his semi gets a flat tire in the middle of nowhere, this story explores the supernatural and life synchronicities and the second thriller on the works is based on mysticism and the story of a very an unusual love story between two individuals who find a way to each other through learning the secrets of the universe. The third project is a self-help book to conquering  anxiety and experience self-realization through a technique I created using life mapping.
