Profile Information

Well, first off, my name is Charles Lee McCabe.  I have always been fond of books, and I believe that I can thank my mother for that.  Naturally, my love of books (along with very few neighbors my own age) left me spending much of my free time growing up reading in one corner or another.  As a kid, I always had a vivid imagination, which would at times get me into trouble.  I was always the one in class spouting off jokes, or coming up with stories just to see what I could get people to believe.  Yes, I spent quite a bit of time in trouble.  After years of this, I decided that I might as well try my hand at putting some of these stories on paper, and maybe I would get a little positive attention for these wild ideas for once!  What do you know?  It worked!

I found myself writing children's stories at first, because I really wanted to see if I could do it.  The process looked simple enough before I started out, but I soon learned just how difficult it would be just to get my mind to look at the world with a child’s innocence and lack of experience.  It was then that I realized that many of the kids’ stories that are out there today talk down to kids and spell everything out for them.  There are too few stories that make a child stop reading and think about what is going on.  Most stories (for kids and adults both) simply take you along and show you a story.  You simply have to read the words and recognize them, and you are fine.  I wanted to write stories that made the reader ask another person that may have had different life experiences what was going on.  I tried to keep myself from pouring it on too thick, and I would like to think I have succeeded.
I have also written a few other short stories of varying genre, and I do hope that you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed writing them.
